Healthy Kids
The Center now has staff members who have been trained to help families fill out applications for health insurance under Oregon’s expanded Healthy Kids Program. Two Healthy Kids Outreach Workers are available to visit homes of families in the Tigard-Tualatin School District (Sherwood too), on convenient days and times, to assist families with uninsured children in filling out an application for health insurance.
Depending on family income, children may be eligible for free or low-cost health coverage for doctor visits, dental care, vision, medicines and more through the Healthy Kids program, even if their families have applied for the Oregon Health Plan in the past and been denied. Requirements for eligibility are as follows: legal resident of Oregon; under the age of 19; without health insurance for at least 2 months (with exceptions for a parent’s job loss or the child’s serious medical need); and household income not more than 300% of the federal poverty level (approximately $66,000 for a family of four, less for smaller families and more for larger families). Children and youth who do not qualify for Healthy Kids may still be signed up for emergency medical care.
If you or someone you know has children who have no health insurance, or needs help filling out the Healthy Kids application, or has questions about the Healthy Kids Program, please contact Healthy Kids Outreach Worker Lyndsey Brewer 503-572-9806 (c), lbrewer@ttsd.k12.or.us or Bilingual (Spanish) Healthy Kids Outreach Worker Becky Padron at 503-572-5264 (c), rpadron@ttsd.k12.or.us and ask for help in applying for health insurance.
